FGS Conference 2009 – Time to Go Home, But not before a little site-seeing in Little Rock

Today, the conference is over!  It has been a great week!  I really needed a complete break from everything and I got it this week!  A week of great genealogy tips and meeting some wonderful new friends!

Before leaving town, I decided to do a little site-seeing.  I planned on visiting the Little Rock Zoo and the Clinton Museum.  I managed to sneak in a visit to the Central High Museum as well.

Peabody Ducks and Research at the State Archives at the Arkansas History Commission

Today, I watched the ducks at their 11am March.  This is a site not to be missed if you are in Little Rock near the Peabody!  After watching the ducks, I took a few minutes and went to the State Archives at the Arkansas History Commission and did a little research!  I found a few items that will be added to my genealogy files soon! The staff of the Arkansas History Commission were very helpful and very welcoming!  A first-rate research location! The Arkansas History Commission is next to the State Capital building so I got a few photos of the Capital Mall.

FGS Conference 2009 – Statehouse Museum

Today, I visited the Statehouse Museum, to the west of the Peabody Hotel in Little Rock.  It was wonderful to stand on the steps of the Old Statehouse where Governor Bill Clinton gave his victory speech upon becoming President-Elect Bill Clinton.  The sense of history in the Old Statehouse is almost overwhelming!

Here are a few photos from my visit.  I took over 200 but I am sharing a few of my favorites below.

At The FGS Conference in Little Rock, Arkansas

Hi Everyone,

I am currently attending the FGS Conference in Little Rock, Arkansas. It has been a wonderful couple of days so far. I arrived last night and attended the first session on developing a research plan. It was extremely interesting and offered some good tips!

Today, I attended several sessions on using a society’s website and marketing a society as well as a couple of researching techniques classes. I have met many people from all over the state and am having a great time!

Tonight, I attended the Arkansas Naturals vs the Arkansas Travelers Baseball Game.  Being from Fayetteville, I had to cheer for the Naturals but the Travelers ended up winning the game!  I had a wonderful time at the game just relaxing with people from the conference.

Wish you were here!
